WHALES CLASSROOM ASSISTANT & LIBRARY ADMIN

How long have you worked at BCPS?

I started working at BPS in 2006 as the Kindergarten assistant.  I worked with Luke in the Dolphin room for 5 years and then with Brendan until 2012 when I took on the role of classroom assistant for Years 1 – 6.  Prior to that I was involved with BCPS as a parent when my daughters started in the Dolphin room in 2001 and 2002.

What does your role involve?

I support the teachers in the classroom as well as taking small groups to work on literacy and numeracy. I also work with students doing video projects, cooking and sewing and any other activities that may come up. I work in the library one day a week buying and cataloguing new books and performing library administration tasks. I also organise activities for Book Week and run a Book Fair each year.

Why do you enjoy working at BCPS?

I really enjoy watching the kids grow up, from Prep to Year 6 seeing them overcome challenges and shine at the things they love to do. I love working at BCPS, the staff are great and the kids all know each other and love their school and there is a lot of creativity in the air. It is also good to work in the town where I live.

What occupies your time outside school hours?

I love to cook and like to spend time preparing meals for my family and friends.  I grow vegies in my back yard and take my dogs to the beach.  My husband is a banana farmer and we have a stall at the Byron farmers market where you will find me on a Thursday morning before school.

What aspirations still lie ahead?

Now that our daughters have left home and moved to Melbourne to study and work, we hope to be able to do a little bit of overseas travel.
