Library Administrator, Classroom Assistant
How long have worked at BCPS?
I started working at BCPS in 2006 as the Kindergarten Assistant after completing a Certificate III in Children’s Services. I worked with Luke and then Brendan in the Dolphin room until 2012 when I took on the role of classroom assistant for Years 1-6.
What does your role involve?
I support the teachers in the classroom as well as taking small groups to work on literacy and numeracy. I also work with students doing video projects, gardening and sewing. I work in the library one day a week buying and cataloguing new books and performing library administration tasks, including organising activities for Book Week and running the book fair each year.
Why do you enjoy working at BCPS and what do you enjoy most?
I really enjoy watching the kids grow up, from Kindergarten to Year 6, seeing them overcome challenges and shine at the things they love to do. BCPS is a great place to work – the staff are great, the kids all know each other and love their school and there is a lot of creativity in the air. It is also good to work in the town where I live. I have lived in Byron for more than 20 years with my husband Craig and our two teenage daughters, who both attended BCPS in their primary years.
What occupies your time outside school hours?
I love to cook and put a lot of time into preparing meals for my family and friends. I also spend time in the garden growing veggies and looking after my chooks. My husband is a farmer and we have a market stall and I help out, drying fruit and working at the stall.
What aspirations still lie ahead?
My youngest daughter is about to start Year 12. When she finishes school, I would love to do some travelling with my husband.
